Aluminum-coated step index multimode silica fibers CCR 1.06 (Low OH)
CCR (core-to-clad ratio) 1.06 describes the ratio between clad and core diameter — a thinner cladding relative to the core, which increases the effective numerical aperture and makes the fiber especially well suited for coupling high-power laser sources.
Low-OH fiber has reduced hydroxyl content in the core, which extends usable transmission further into the near-infrared (up to 2200 nm) at the expense of some UV/visible transmission — the opposite trade-off to High-OH fiber, which starts transmitting at 250 nm but has a shorter long-wavelength cutoff (around 1200 nm).
The hermetic aluminum coating supports −196°C to +400°C operation, resists chemical corrosion, and can be soldered — while also conducting heat away from the fiber under high optical power, unlike a polymer coating.
