BPDF-SM-5/125-1320 has a smaller core with low bending losses, ideal for compact designs. BPDF-SM-8/125-1320 has a larger core and is built for wideband gain across the O-band.

Both variants provide amplification and lasing across 1280–1450 nm, with peak gain and amplification bandwidth differing between the two (see specifications).

Peak gain is achieved with pump powers around 350 mW at 1320 nm (5/125 variant) or 1240 nm (8/125 variant).
