It provides amplification and superfluorescent emission across 1125–1200 nm, with peak gain around 1160–1170 nm.
The fiber is most efficiently pumped at 1050–1090 nm — compatible with ytterbium fiber lasers or single-mode laser diodes at that wavelength.
Roughly 150 m at 1180 nm with about 500 mW of pump power at 1070 nm; a shorter ~60–70 m length gives the best differential laser efficiency (>15%).
Standard rare-earth-doped fibers (Yb, Er, Tm) don't efficiently cover 1125–1200 nm. Bismuth-aluminum active centers give gain directly in this window using a standard silica-glass platform, without switching to an exotic host material.
