Side-lobe suppression ratio (SLSR) of −10 dB to −30 dB is achievable, depending on grating strength and the specific apodization profile used.
Sensing applications, signal filtering, and Brillouin-scatter filtering all benefit from apodized gratings, since suppressed side lobes reduce unwanted crosstalk and false signal readings from adjacent spectral features.
