Phosphosilicate fiber has a Raman shift of about 1330 cm⁻¹ — roughly three times larger than the shift in standard germanium-doped fiber — which lets a cascaded Raman laser reach a target wavelength in fewer conversion stages.

The standard Raman laser FBG series is offered at 1240 nm, 1270 nm and 1484 nm, matched to typical phosphosilicate Raman-laser cascade stages.
