Mechanically applied strain shifts the grating's central Bragg wavelength linearly, with a relative strain sensitivity of about 0.78×10⁻⁶ per microstrain. The grating is housed in a boxed package that lets you apply and adjust that strain manually.
A standard adjustment range of up to 2–3 nm is available (see note on data discrepancy), including athermal-performance versions that maintain this range with reduced temperature sensitivity.
The package is designed for manual operation, so the wavelength can be adjusted as needed rather than being fixed at a single set point — useful for applications needing a corrected or actively positioned central wavelength.
