Large-mode-area double-clad tapered fiber for extreme-peak-power, cladding-pumped amplifiers — up to 0.5 MW nonlinear threshold with diffraction-limited output.
YDF-DC-40/400-PM-TPR-2.5-A is a polarization-maintaining, double-clad ytterbium-doped tapered fiber built for the highest peak powers in cladding-pumped amplifier architectures. The fiber tapers from a single-mode 8/80 µm end for signal input to a very-large-mode-area 40/400 µm end for signal output and pump input, combining single-mode input compatibility with large-mode-area power handling in one continuous piece of glass.
Advantages
1. Highest nonlinear threshold on the market — up to 0.5 MW peak power before onset of nonlinear effects, thanks to high Yb concentration and a short taper length.
2. Diffraction-limited beam quality — clean output beam even at extreme peak powers.
3. All-glass double-clad design — highly F-doped second cladding (NA ≈ 0.26) allows simple, reliable polishing of the thick 400 µm end.
4. Dual-end architecture — single-mode 8/80 µm input, LMA 40/400 µm output, no extra mode-matching components needed.
5. Polarization-maintaining — preserves linear polarization through the taper for coherent/narrow-linewidth systems.
6. No power degradation — engineered for stable operation without power roll-off over time.

Why it matters: in cladding-pumped amplifiers, peak power is usually capped by nonlinear effects (SBS, SRS) long before the fiber's damage threshold. The short, high-concentration taper design of YDF-DC-40/400-PM-TPR-2.5-A pushes that nonlinear ceiling far higher than standard step-index LMA fibers — while keeping the output beam diffraction-limited. |
