PDF-5/125PM is the polarization-maintaining version of FORC-Photonics' phosphorus-doped Raman fiber, built on a PANDA stress-rod design. It combines the large Raman shift of phosphorus doping with a high polarization extinction ratio, for Raman laser and amplifier designs that need to preserve a defined polarization state.

Customization — Two fiber quality grades (P/A) available; other parameters are available on the request.  A polarization-maintaining version is available — see PDF-5/125PM.

Key Advantages

  • High polarization extinction ratio — > 20 dB after just 30 m of fiber. 
  • PANDA design — a proven, mechanically robust PM geometry. 
  • Strong Raman gain — > 5 dB/(km·W), consistent with the standard PDF-5/125 series. 
  • Low loss across key Raman bands — < 3 dB/km at 1064 nm, < 2 dB/km at 1310 nm.
  • Low optical loss — as low as < 1.2 dB/km at 1310 nm (P-grade). Tight core geometry control — non-concentricity < 1 µm. 
  • Drop-in compatibility — same 5/125 µm core/clad dimensions as the standard (non-PM) PDF-5/125 series.
Why it matters: standard Raman fibers scramble polarization over distance, which is a problem for coherent combining, polarization-sensitive Raman amplification, and single-frequency systems. PDF-5/125PM keeps the phosphorus-doped fiber's Raman-shift advantage while adding PANDA-grade polarization control — so designers don't have to trade one for the other.
