HN-PCF-800 has its zero-dispersion wavelength at 800 nm, matched to Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser pumping, while HN-PCF-1040 has its ZDW at 900–1000 nm, matched to Yb-doped fiber ps/fs laser pumping.

PCFs use holes or inclusions of differing refractive index in the core and/or cladding instead of simple doped-glass regions, allowing highly customized dispersion and nonlinear properties not achievable in conventional fiber.

The series is specifically designed for the two most common supercontinuum pump sources: Ti: Sapphire femtosecond lasers and Yb-doped fiber picosecond or femtosecond lasers.
